What great play we had at this weekend's Santa Fe Open at El Gancho!
The 5.0 division was filled with exceptional talent, and the games were just amazing. Gary Sanchez outlasted the field to take first place. Jeb Chaudhry came in with a strong performance against Chris Fontes in a five-game match and took second.
The 4.0 division saw Michael Munson best Randy Sjue to take first place. Neither had lost a game in the regular bracket play.
Bruce Bernstein and Donovan Duran played for third and fourth place in what was the match of the day. Their five-game match came down to the wire -- Donovan missed a critical point to give Bruce the win.
In the 3.0 finals, Julia Sheppard's fitness took its toll on Ted Cousins. Each time Ted thought he had hit a winner, the ball would reappear on the front wall. Julia simply got to everything. (I think I might have been as fit as she when I was 10 years old.)
Courtney Carswell and Joe Dimarco boasted it out for third and fourth place. I have never seen more boasts in my life -- and they were all great shots. In the end, Courtney took third place, while Joe settled for fourth.
